| Dr. William Meister had always
dreamt of a golf course in Diani. In the late 1980’s the realisation of this
dream began as clearing and construction began of the Leisure Golf Course.
The course architect was Mr. Tommy Fjastad, a course designer of
international renown. His primary obstacle was the huge amount of coral
that covered the proposed site. A 100-acre farm was purchased in the Shimba
Hills; it’s sole purpose being to supply topsoil for the golf course. The
first 9 holes opened in 1991, while the finished product was officially
opened in July 1993 by the then Minister of Tourism; Mr. Katana Ngala.
The club has just celebrated it's 10th Anniversary by hosting the
Inaugural Dr. Meister Memorial Challenge.
